Sacramento air pollution exacerbates allergic lung inflammation
CHE post-doc Alejandro Castañeda published a study in the journal of Toxicologic Pathology on how Sacramento particulate matter enhances the allergic inflammatory response in lung tissue through mechanisms involving increased oxidative stress.
Castañeda, along with CHE investigators Keith Bein and Kent Pinkerton, collected particulate matter, a component of air pollution, from downtown Sacramento to understand the mechanisms by which particulate matter exacerbates airway inflammation and hyperreactivity in asthmatic patients.
